Step Back in Time
"Step Back in Time" depicts the Erie Canal as it existed around 1880 near this site. In fact, the tan building with the gray roof shown in the mural on the right, in the foreground represents the building the mural is located on. The horse and carriage crossing the bridge honors the blacksmithâs shop that resided there at the time. Prominent buildings in the mural such as the Court House and the clock tower would have been able to be seen in 1880 and still are in use today.
It was commissioned by Mural Mania, an organization that is responsible for the creation of a collection of murals along the Erie Canal in western New York. It was painted at Artshop 13 in Baxter, TN on Evolon Fabric with the help of Bill Herren and Samantha Nolloth during the summer of 2016. The following October it was installed on the NAPA Auto Parts building in Lyons, NY. Mark De Cracker co-founder of Mural Mania helped with the last minute color adjustments on site.
